About the Instructors

Rick and Wendy Roman are into their 3rd decade of handcrafting. In 1989 they bought a parcel of land on the Bruce Peninsula and built their first piece sur piece log house from the cedar forest surrounding them. Since then they have built two other log houses, a very large straw bale workshop, as well as smaller structures and installations, including extensive stone work and rustic furniture . Rick and Wendy have been working with and instructing small groups since 2004. Teaching sustainable construction is a natural extension of their desire to see others build in a way that empowers the owner/builder, while using resources wisely.

About the Homestead

The workshops will take place on a beautiful 50 acre parcel of land, located half way up the Bruce Peninsula. Much of the instruction will take place in and adjacent to the new straw bale studio/shop. On the property, participants will see the 2200 sq. foot piece sur piece log house, pond and the organic garden, which will supply much of the produce for our meals. They will also have the chance to walk our nature trails and enjoy swimming at our favorite spot on lake Huron.
